
Modules English Skills for Academic Study 1, 2, 3 You will develop your English communication skills and learn a range of study skills, including writing and reading strategies, presentation and seminar participation, organisation of time and materials, meeting deadlines and responding to feedback. You will then be able to use English language in your own academic work, give presentations and contribute to seminar discussions, take notes from lectures, plan and write wellstructured academic essays. Economics for Management This module aims to explore the sweeping global economic changes that have taken place over the past three or four decades and examine the nature of markets and their increasing role in people’s lives. Foundations of Knowledge You will explore four key foundations of knowledge; the production of knowledge claims; the relationship between knowledge and persuasion by focussing attention on rhetoric; the political, economic and institutional context within which learning, education and knowledge production takes place; philosophy as a core foundation of knowledge including ‘epistemology’. Foundations of Management You will be introduced to key concepts and theories essential to undertaking management studies. It draws upon a range of perspectives from across the social sciences and the humanities. Information Technology This module provides you with a practical introduction to IT skills and how they are used in an academic and learning context. It looks at the role IT plays in management, as well as its limitations. Introduction to Accountancy You will be introduced to bookkeeping concepts and how these are used to produce financial statements. It introduces you to statement analysis to determine profitability and also some academic criticism of accounting information and models. Introduction to Marketing You will be introduced to the fundamental concepts and principles that underpin the marketing process. In addition, it examines the role and practice of marketing within the changing business environment and will provide all learners with a concise and contemporary overview of marketing. Quantitative Methods This module will help you gain an appreciation of the theoretical and practical considerations necessary to effectively conduct quantitative research and analyse quantitative data for academic purposes. You will learn how to evaluate the use of quantitative research and analysis in applied professional management contexts.
